What Is a W Insulator?
A W insulator is a claw-shaped plastic holder fitted to a fence post. The live wire clips into the claw, and the insulator stops current leaking from the wire into the post and down to earth. Its W shape grips the wire from opposing sides, so it does not slip out sideways.

W Insulators or W Posts?
Loose W insulators are fixed to your own posts — with nails on timber or rivets on steel. For wall-top fences, W posts come with the insulators already fitted and spaced, which is faster to install. For heavier wire and more arcing protection, choose large W insulators.
