Quick answer: A wall-top electric fence in Kenya costs about KSh 470 per metre for materials before VAT, or KSh 546 per metre including 16% VAT. That is for a 100 m fence with 8 strands, 4 corners, one swing gate and a Nemtek Druid 13 energizer: KSh 47,096 before VAT, or KSh 54,631 including VAT. Adding razor wire on top adds about KSh 168 per metre before VAT. Longer fences cost less per metre, because the energizer, siren and earthing are bought once. Installation and delivery are extra.

Free-standing electric fence materials and prices
Choose “Free-standing fence” in the calculator for a farm, plot or boundary fence that stands on its own posts. Posts are 3 metres apart, the lines alternate live and earth, every line gets a W insulator at each post, and super strainers hold the lines at corners and gates. Enter the size in acres and the calculator works out the fence length as a square plot: 1 acre is about 254 metres of fence.

Worked example: cost of a 100 m electric fence with 8 strands
This is the estimate the calculator gives for a 100 metre fence with 8 strands of 1.6mm wire, 4 corners, one swing gate and a Nemtek Druid 13 energizer.
| Item | Qty | Each (KSh) | Total (KSh) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.6mm galvanized HT wire, 1,200 m roll | 1 | 6,200 | 6,200 |
| W posts | 31 | 250 | 7,750 |
| Corner posts | 4 | 150 | 600 |
| Corner support posts | 8 | 140 | 1,120 |
| Strainer insulators | 72 | 8 | 576 |
| Warning signs | 20 | 100 | 2,000 |
| Copper earth rods | 3 | 150 | 450 |
| Undergate and lead-out cable, 50 m roll | 1 | 1,200 | 1,200 |
| Nemtek Druid 13 energizer | 1 | 21,000 | 21,000 |
| Siren kit | 1 | 2,500 | 2,500 |
| 4 core alarm cable | 1 | 1,200 | 1,200 |
| Lightning arrestor | 1 | 2,500 | 2,500 |
| Materials subtotal (excl. VAT) | 47,096 | ||
| VAT 16% | 7,535 | ||
| Total including VAT | 54,631 |
That works out to about KSh 470 per metre for materials before VAT, or about KSh 546 per metre including 16% VAT. Adding silver razor wire along the same 100 metres takes 12 rolls and adds KSh 16,800, for a total of KSh 63,896 before VAT (KSh 74,119 including VAT). Installation and delivery are not included.
Electric fence cost questions
How much does an electric fence cost per metre in Kenya?
In the example above, materials come to about KSh 470 per metre. The cost per metre falls on longer fences, because the energizer, siren, earthing and lightning arrestor are bought once whatever the length.
What materials do I need for an electric fence?
High tensile wire, W posts, corner posts with supports, strainer insulators, an energizer, copper earth rods, undergate and lead-out cable, warning signs, a siren and a lightning arrestor. A sliding gate also needs a gate contact. Razor wire is optional.
How much wire do I need?
Multiply the fence length by the number of strands and add 5% for joins and tensioning. A 100 metre fence with 8 strands needs about 840 metres, so one 1,200 metre roll is enough.
How far apart are the posts?
The calculator spaces W posts 3 metres apart and adds a corner post with two support posts at every corner.
How much does a farm electric fence cost per acre in Kenya?
A free-standing fence around 1 acre is about 254 metres long. With 8 lines of 2.5mm wire, 4 corners, one gate, a Lanstar P200 energizer, a lightning diverter and a solar kit, materials come to about KSh 79,750 before VAT, or KSh 92,510 including VAT. That excludes the 86 fence posts, which we price on request. Choose another energizer in the calculator to see its price.
Is a 6-strand fence much cheaper than 8 strands?
Not on a short wall. On a 100 metre wall-top fence, 6 strands need about 630 metres of wire and 8 strands about 840 metres, and both fit on one 1,200 metre roll. The only difference is fewer strainer insulators, so 6 strands save about KSh 128: KSh 46,968 against KSh 47,096 before VAT. With 8 strands, you need a second roll of wire once the fence is longer than about 142 metres.
How much razor wire do I need, and what does it cost?
One roll covers about 9 metres of wall, so a 100 metre wall needs 12 rolls. That is KSh 16,800 for silver galvanized razor wire at KSh 1,400 a roll, or KSh 22,800 for green razor wire at KSh 1,900 a roll, before VAT.
How much does an electric fence energizer cost in Kenya?
Energizers for wall-top home fences range from KSh 13,800 for a Hammer EZ 630 to KSh 55,000 for a Nemtek Druid 114, with JVA models from KSh 18,000. Farm energizers range from KSh 19,500 for a TH Mars 8 to KSh 275,000 for a Stafix M63R. Prices exclude VAT. The right size depends on your fence length and number of strands, so send your estimate on WhatsApp and we will advise.
Will my electric fence work during a power cut?
Yes, if the energizer has backup power. Nemtek’s Wizord 4i and Druid energizers run on 240 V mains with a built-in backup battery, and Nemtek rates the Wizord 4i at about 24 hours on a full battery. For farms or plots without mains power, add a solar kit (a 150 W panel, 100 Ah battery, 30 A charge controller and 10 metres of cable, about KSh 20,800 before VAT) or choose a JVA SV solar energizer, which has its own panel, from KSh 32,000.
Does the estimate include installation?
No. The estimate covers materials only. See electric fence installation in Kenya or send your estimate on WhatsApp for an installed price.
Do you deliver?
Yes. Same-day delivery is available within Nairobi, and you can collect from our shop on Accra Road.
