What Is an Electric Fence Gate Spring?
A gate spring is a stretchable, electrified link that closes a gap in an electric fence — typically a farm gate, paddock opening or walk-through. The coiled spring hooks across the opening and stays live, so animals cannot pass. When you need to go through, you hold the insulated handle, unhook the spring and hook it back afterwards, without switching off the whole fence.
Features and Specifications
- Secures a gate opening up to 1.5m wide
- Insulated handle for safe opening while the fence is live
- Stainless steel spring for corrosion resistance
- UV-stabilised plastic handle
Where to Use a Gate Spring
Gate springs suit livestock paddocks, strip-grazing lines, kitchen-garden fences and other farm openings that are used often. For wider openings or a permanent driveway gate on a security fence, run the live lines under the gate with undergate cable and monitor the gate with Nemtek gate contacts.
Installation
Fix an insulator on the post at each side of the opening at the same height as the fence line. Connect one end of the spring to the live wire through the insulator, and hook the handle onto the opposite side. Keep the spring clear of the ground and vegetation when it is unhooked and hanging.
