Where to Fit Smoke Alarms
Fit the first alarm between bedrooms and the most likely fire sources, such as the living room. It should be no more than about seven metres from the door of any room where a fire could block your escape. Most homes need two or more alarms, and the alarm must be loud enough to wake everyone.
Where Not to Fit
Avoid kitchens and bathrooms, where cooking fumes and steam cause false alarms.
