How a Magnetic Lock Works

A maglock is an electromagnet mounted on the door frame and a steel armature plate fixed to the door. While powered, the magnet holds the plate with 280kg of force. When the access reader, exit button or fire alarm cuts the power, the door releases immediately. Because it unlocks when power is lost, it is a fail-safe lock, which suits emergency exit routes.
