What Is a Fiberglass Extension Ladder?

An extension ladder has overlapping sections that slide to provide different working lengths. It must lean against a strong support and cannot stand independently.

Fiberglass Extension Ladder Sizes

• 2-by-10: 6m
• 2-by-12: 7.4m
• 2-by-14: 8.6m
• 2-by-16: 9.8m

Confirm the closed length, maximum working length and overlap required for the selected size.

Extension Ladder for Roof Access

For roof access, the ladder must extend sufficiently above the landing point and be secured against movement. Use only a size that preserves the required section overlap.

Fiberglass Ladder for Electrical Work

Fiberglass side rails reduce electrical conductivity compared with aluminium. The listing states suitability for electrical exposure up to 20,000V per m², but users must verify the ladder’s labels, condition and applicable workplace rules before electrical work.

Automatic Extension Locks

The integrated locking mechanism engages when the ladder reaches a suitable extension point. Check both locks visually and physically before climbing.

Non-Slip Rungs, Shoes and Stabiliser

Surface-treated rungs, non-slip feet and the supplied stabiliser improve grip on firm, level ground. Keep rungs clean and dry.

Choosing the Correct Extension Ladder Size

Select a length that reaches the task without using prohibited upper rungs or overextending the sections. Also consider transport length, ladder weight and available setup space.

How to Set Up an Extension Ladder Safely

Use the recommended leaning angle, secure the base and top, maintain the required overlap and keep the area below clear. Do not move or extend the ladder while someone is on it.

Fiberglass or Aluminium?

Choose fiberglass when work may bring you near electricity. For general access away from live wiring, the lighter aluminium 5.6m or 7.4m double telescopic ladders cost less. For a folding non-conductive option, see the fiberglass multipurpose ladder.
